Betting on the Houston Texans
Betting on sports in Texas can mean placing a wager on the Houston Texans. Playing in the South Division of the AFC in the NFL, the Texans enjoy their home games at NRG Stadium in Houston. That stadium has a seating capacity of 71,054, and is home to an always exciting Houston Texans – Tennessee Titans rivalry matchup at least once a year. The Texans head coach is William J. “Bill” O’Brien, formerly of Penn State in the NCAA.
The Texans are the youngest team in the NFL, joining the league in the 2002 season. As a young franchises often do, there are struggles entering the 2014 season on a 14 game losing streak. This may not make them the most popular wager in Texas football betting, but they are indeed covered in the lines at legal, reputable sportsbooks.

Houston Texans Checkup After 7 Games
The Texans rank 8th in the NFL in rushing yards per game, at 129.0 per clip. Not the best passing team in football, they are not that good at defending the pass either. After 7 games the Texans are 3 – 4 in the AFC South, a division inhabited by their arch-rival Tennessee Titans (see rivalry below), who they play next on the road. Thanks to running back Arian Foster, the Texans have been in every ball game. Similar credit needs to go to the defensive side of the ball, where All-World defensive end and MVP candidate JJ Watt is the truest definition of the word unstoppable. Still, the Houston Texans defensive backfield is allowing too many yards and too many touchdowns, and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is simply efficient. In a division with the tough Indianapolis Colts, and a game coming up against their biggest rival, Houston cannot simply wait for the return of the promising Jadeveon Clowney to step up its defensive efforts if the Texans are going to make the playoffs this year.
Heated Houston Texans Rivalries
Houston Texans – Tennessee Titans
While an argument can be made that Houston now has a viable rivalry with an intrastate NFL Dallas Cowboys team, there is no doubt that the Texans hate the Titans. The Tennessee Titans were formerly based in Houston, and known as the Houston Oilers. And Houston’s current team is obviously the Texans. From coaches to players to fans, this intense and bitter rivalry has 2 teams originally based in Houston playing against each other twice a year in the AFC South Division. And there is no love lost.
Entering the 2014 season, the Titans lead the Texans 15 – 9 in this tilt. Both teams are hungry, as neither has earned a Super Bowl championship. Houston has yet to claim a conference championship, with Tennessee winning its lone conference title in 1999. Houston has been playing better of late, taking 2 AFC South Division Championships in 2011 and 2012. However, Tennessee also claims 2 division titles, earned in 2002 and 2008. If the 2 teams seem very evenly matched, that is definitely the case. This evenly matched but heated rivalry has even been known to lead to fist-fights when the 2 teams meet.
On November 28, 2010, Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson traded punches with Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan. Both players were ejected, and the Texans won that game handily 20 – 0. The following year the rivalry became even more intense. 2011 saw both the Texans and the Titans viable contenders for the division title. Week 7 had the Titans hosting Houston, in a matchup which would determine the division lead. Houston was coming off a two-game losing streak and the Texans were the home-field favorite. In a game which saw plenty of scraps and “after the whistle shenanigans”, the underdog Texans blew out Tennessee in its own backyard, 41 – 7.
Later that same season Houston hosted Tennessee, with Tennessee remembering the 34 point blowout earlier in the year. Tennessee also wished to keep its playoff hopes alive, and played accordingly. In another game that was frequented by officials having to pull opposing players apart, the Titans survived on a botched 2 point attempt by the Texans. Due to other NFL contests played that week, the Titans narrowly missed the playoffs. However, had they snuck into the postseason party, they would have faced … the Texans. The Dallas Cowboys are quickly becoming a serious Houston rival, but the Texans – Titans divisional clash guarantees at least 2 hotly contested games each year.
