Baylor Bears Football Team in 2014-2015 Season

Baylor started the season with three warm up games against SMU, Northwestern St. and Buffalo. The Bears would use their prolific offense to win these three games by a total score of 178-28. Baylor jumped up to 5th in the rankings after two easy victories over two of the weaker teams in the Big 12, Iowa State and Texas. Two top 10 teams would face off on October 11th when Baylor took on the TCU Horned Frogs. Baylor would be down the entire game, but they would get three late touchdowns to setup a game winning field goal for Chris Callahan with no time left in the game to win 61-58. Baylor would suffer immediate disappointment after getting their biggest win of the season. Despite being heavily favored, Baylor would fall to West Virginia 41-27 in their next game. This loss would ultimately become very costly for the Bears at the end of the season.

Baylor would cruise to three victories over Kansas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State after their disappointing loss. The Bears would hold off a late surge by Texas Tech for a 48-46 victory in AT&T Stadium in Dallas. Baylor entered the last game of the regular season ranked 6th in the country. They were hoping their 38-27 victory over the 9th ranked Kansas State Wildcats would be enough to give them a chance for the National Championship, but they would only move up to 5th. Just like TCU, Baylor was ultimately hurt by the lack of conference championship game and the Big 12’s refusal to name a conference champion. Baylor would end their season against the 8th ranked Michigan Spartans in the Cotton Bowl. Three 4th quarter touchdowns would help Michigan State win 42-41. The Baylor Bears would end the season 7th ranked team in the nation.

Heated Baylor Bears Rivalries

Baylor vs Texas Tech

Texas Tech has played the Baylor Bears more than any other team. The past 72 meetings going into 2014 show an overall record of 35 wins, 36 losses and 1 tie for Baylor. Since 2009 this epic rivalry has been played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Texas Tech defeated Baylor 15 times from 1996 to 2010, and the Bears reigned victorious 10 out of 12 years from 1979 to 1990. Both teams are a member of the Big 12 conference, which means that this in-state rivalry has serious implications every year.

Baylor vs TCU

The Texas Christian University Horned Frogs do not sound like a very mean or spirited team. But they certainly are when they play Baylor, in a rivalry which dates back to 1899. This is one of the oldest and most established rivalries in all of college football. That is because Baylor and TCU once occupied the same city, Waco, Texas. TCU has since moved, but the schools’ hatred for each other has lingered. Usually, you can take the records and talents and throw them out of the window when these 2 teams meet. There have been 7 ties in the matchup, with an incredible 42 games decided by 7 points or less. But there have also been 36 shutouts in the series. One of the most memorable Baylor – TCU contests saw Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin lead Baylor to a 2011 come-from-behind fourth-quarter field goal that gave the Bears a 50 – 48 victory.

Baylor vs Texas

The Texas Longhorns have played the Baylor Bears more than 100 times. Both schools were original members of the Southwest Conference, as well as the Big 12 conference. With roughly 100 miles separating the teams, it is easy to see why this ancient in-state rivalry has become so heated. Texas owns nearly a 3 to 1 margin in victories, though Baylor in recent years has been the team to beat. Memorable Baylor – Texas matchups include the “Miracle on the Brazos”, which describes the 1974 Baylor season and its win over Texas that year. Texas sports betting does not get any bigger than this storied conflict.
