2025 Texas NFL And College Football Season Previews

Texas online sports betting is huge in the state. The sport of football borders on a religion for some, so it stands to reason that there are an overflow of teams to consider for the 2015 college football season. Four of them are situated within the Big 12 Conference, Texas A&M battles in the SEC. Meanwhile, others like Houston and SMU are in the AAC and Rice and Texas-El Paso have a home in Conference USA.

Baylor Bears / TCU Horned Frogs 2025 Football

Baylor and TCU are the main contenders for the Big 12 title, with both having quarterbacks with different levels of experience. TCU has the edge here with the return of Trevone Boykin, but Baylor’s Seth Russell was able to get enough playing time during his first two years to make the transition to the starting lineup a quick one. The Horned Frogs may end up winning the conference, but Baylor will be on their heels all year long.

Texas Longhorns 2025 Football

In the middle of the pack are the Texas Longhorns, which won three of its last regular season games, but got drilled in their 2014 bowl game to end on a down note. In addition, there were also leveled in a trio of conference games by a collective score of 99-17 that resulted in the team’s 6-7 finish. The Longhorn offense definitely needs to improve in 2015, while the linebacking and secondary need to raise their game to match the production from the defensive line.

Texas Tech Red Raiders 2025 Football

Texas Tech has to get its offense back to its 2013 level, while the defense simply needs to reach an acceptable level. In the latter case, creating more turnovers is seen as the way to make that happen, and creating more opportunities for sack-master Pete Robertson. Right now, head coach Kliff Kingsbury has Patrick Mahomes penciled in at quarterback, but whether or not Mahomes can improve his game is still a question mark entering the 2015 college football season.

Texas A&M Aggies 2025 Football

With quarterback Kyle Allen’s strong finish during the 2014 college football season, the Aggie faithful could very well forget the wild days of Johnny Football soon. Still, if Texas A&M expects to move up in the dogfight that is the SEC, they have to find a defense to keep them in the game. Having Miles Garrett at end is a strong building block toward making that happen.

Houston Cougars / SMU Mustangs 2025 Football

New head coach Tom Herman is seeking to get the Cougars back to their old-high powered ways, and the level of play AAC can help that become a reality much more quickly. With SMU, another new coach in Chad Morris is hoping to rekindle the glory years of the Mustang program-without the baggage. The possibility of quick improvement from the team’s 1-11 campaign is 2014 is possible.

Rice Owls / UTEP Miners 2025 Football

The Owls have completely reversed things around from their old woeful ways with three solid seasons, but that success might slow up this season. That’s because the team has sustained heavy losses on both sides of the ball. With UTEP, it took nearly a decade for the Miners to achieve a winning season, collecting seven victories in 2014. They have five defenders returning, which could mean another bowl game is on tap.

Dallas Cowboys 2025

A trip to the postseason and a panful end to the season in Green Bay has only whetted the appetites of Dallas Cowboy fans for the 2015 NFL season. The word Super Bowl might even be whispered among the most ardent of that group.

Tony Romo’s back at quarterback, but he has to stay healthy for that to happen. He’ll have Dez Bryant as his main weapon, but the running game will have to trade in DeMarco Murray for Darren McFadden. While McFadden is talented, he has problems staying out of the trainer’s room.

The team’s offensive line is among the best in the NFL, and got even better with the unique acquisition of LSU guard La’el Collins. The defensive line can’t say that, and also has to deal with the controversial signing of Greg Hardy, who will miss the first six games. Other parts of the defense need to also put in additional effort to keep the Eagles from snatching the NFC East away from them in 2015.

Houston Texans 2025

Bill O’Brien got things back on track in 2014 for the Houston Texans during his first season, but has to figure out whether Ryan Mallett or Brian Hoyer is the right option at quarterback. O’Brien must also find a sub at running back for at least the first half of the 2015 football season due to another injury absence by Arian Foster, who can’t seem to stay healthy. DeAndre Hopkins will be the main receiving target after the free agent departure of Andre Johnson. However, the offensive line doesn’t have that level of talent. The defensive line has J.J. Watt, which pretty much says it all, but he’ll be joined by former Patriot Vince Wilfork. Meanwhile, Jadaveon Clowney hopes to stay healthy at linebacker, but will also have off-the-field issues to deal with this season. Kareem Jackson at cornerback is one of the most important parts of the secondary, but in the end, it’ll be the quarterback situation that determines the Texans’ fate.
